The calendar says when a chapter is already yours

  • A chapter your plan lets you read now, because you are a set number of chapters ahead, said "your early access" against the same date everyone else gets it. It now says it is yours to read now and gives the public date beside it.

One release notice per chapter

  • Followers were told twice about a chapter given a public date in the future: once when the author put it out, when nobody could read it yet, and again when it went public. The notice now goes out once, on the public date.

Pick when a chapter goes public, and sell a head start on it

Release 1.0.57. This replaces the release notes for 1.0.52 to 1.0.56, which described the earlier shape of this feature.

  • When you put a chapter out you set one thing: the date it becomes public. Leave it empty and the chapter is public as soon as you save; set a date and it waits. You can set it on the chapter form or straight from the chapter list, so a run of chapters can be spaced out over the coming weeks in one sitting, and you can move it afterwards.
  • A schedule plan now gives your subscribers a head start in one of two ways: a number of days before the public date, or a number of chapters past the last one the public can read. The second is for authors who write ahead and want patrons to have the next few chapters whatever the calendar says.
  • Your public date is yours. It no longer moves when you add a tier.
  • A chapter that is not public yet is listed on the book page with the date it arrives, and readers whose plan reaches it see that they can read it now. It stays out of search, out of Continue Reading, out of Latest Releases and off the previous and next buttons until it is public.
  • Everyone following you is told when a chapter reaches its public date.
  • Readers have a Release Calendar in the menu showing what is coming from every author, series and book they follow, by month or as a list, each entry on the day that reader gets it.

Titles on placeholder covers fit the cover

  • A long title no longer breaks in the middle of a word on a book cover without an image. "Frankenstein" was splitting across two lines as "Frankenstei" and "n" on smaller covers.
  • The text on those covers is now sized to the cover it sits on rather than to the width of the screen, so a title, the author name and the site name stay in proportion whether the cover is a small card in a row or the large one on a book page. A title that is still too long to fit breaks with a hyphen.

Classics are credited to the writer who wrote them

  • A series can now name its author. Public domain classics read "By Jane Austen" instead of "By classics", on the series, book and chapter pages, on covers and cards, in search results and in the text used to share a link. The account that published the series is credited underneath as presenting it, and still links to its profile.
  • Every classic already in the library has been credited to its writer, and searching for an author's name now finds their books.
  • The series form has an optional Author Name field. Left blank, which is the normal case for your own work, nothing changes: your account name stays the byline.
